Status Update

The last few months have been a bit tumultuous.

First off: I’m now in the Pacific Northwest but not settled permanently yet. As such I’m using the mini case currently. It has served me well since I left Metro Atlanta 2 months ago.

I was reading back through older posts, and I realized I had some concerns that the hAP ac Lite, which has since been disposed of during the big clean out I had to do, would lose support for future RouterOS versions. We’re now 4 years since that post, and RouterOS 7 is available for that device. It may not have all the features, but that’s due to its storage space and WiFi hardware.

The only bit of MikroTik gear I kept was the hAP ac2, though I’m running RouterOS CHR on my Linode as well as in Azure now, so that’s been nice. Discovering that RouterOS 7 can do containers lead me to spin CHR up in Hyper-V on my laptop to test before setting the others up.

I’m looking into 10 gigabit whenever I get settled, so because of costs, MikroTik’s switches and the hAP ax3 are on my radar, so I need to learn VLANs and like in RouterOS. As the hAP ac2 is in storage right now, I’ll probably grab the hAP Lite, which is their cheapest device, to get this all figured out.

The blog’s time zone is being changed to Pacific Time.

I’m not sure when the next convention trip will happen, but there will be some info here. The overall Internet-in-a-Box is very stable currently, which is very nice indeed.
