Project Naming

A few months ago, I changed the name of the page detailing the contents of the case to “Project Garanchou”.
When I first began work on this project back in 2006, I simply called it the “AWA Con Room Network” as that was, barring the Huntsville Hamfest trip about a month prior being its “dress rehearsal”, the only time it really got used.
Once I started being “serious” about it about 10 years ago, I began calling it “Internet in a Box” as by that time I’d had acquired a Pelican case to carry the gear in.
Fast-forward a few years, I ended up planning to make this a more integrated solution, and I decided it needed a less-generic name.

I’ve been a student of the Japanese language for a number of years, admittedly not the best student, so as this project’s genesis was for an anime convention, I decided to give it a suitable name. In Japanese, “pelican” is (romanized) garanchou. As I am using Pelican cases for this, “Project Garanchou” makes a lot of sense.
Once I have this installed in the case, I’ll probably get “purojekuto garanchou” in katakana printed out as a label and affix it to the case.

I’ll be making an update post regarding the project soon.

Until next time!
