Consideration for Field Operations

While the primary use case for Project Garanchou will be for fixed locations in hotel rooms, the fact that this will be a self-contained setup does raise the question: can this be used for field operations? In this case, field operations are broadly defined as not having shore power available, such as in a car or a campsite.

The good news is this has been designed as a very low power setup by default, so a decently sized power station and accompanying solar cell(s) could run this indefinitely, assuming good sunshine. Will I ever run this in this configuration? Probably not, but it’s good to know it’s possible.

This does raise the question of data safety due to the plans to have a mini server running, though. Truth be told, when the setup was the hAP ac Lite and GrooveA 52 ac combo, I figured that was best, especially after I had stuff colocated. Part of me wants to go back to that sort of setup using the smaller case, likely using OpenWrt on the edge device due to Tailscale being available there natively.

We’ll see if I go for that or if I’ll just stick to the existing plan.

Until next time!
