With recent discoveries regarding specific 5G hotspots, I think it’s time I looked into moving on to 5G NR from the 4G (WiMax then LTE) we’ve been on for over a decade. While 4G served us a lot better than 3G did, one day it will be shut down. Although that day is not to be soon, the fact the aircard I’ve been using is missing two of T-Mobile’s LTE bands has been a limitation on at least one trip over the past couple of years.
Anyway, with the hotspot I’m looking at having an Ethernet port plus the fact it can handle packet mangling itself, this leads me to think I should use OPNsense vs. OpenWrt for the case’s firewall VM seeing as it has an external access point. OPNsense is a little bit overkill for this, but let’s not forget the case itself is a bit overkill.
